The SNES version was by far the most comprehensive. The Genesis version sees the Turtles traveling through various planets in Dimension X fighting purple skinned clones of themselves before facing off against a Triceraton, Krang's Robot body, and finally Karai a character fans of the Animated series were unfamiliar with. In the NES version which was also Konami's final game for the system sees the four Turtles holding a contest amongst themselves to see who should be the one to enter into Shredder's Tournament. Three versions of the game were published with each one having a different story.
With Konami still in possession of the rights to publish games using the Turtles characters it was decided to produce a Fighting game featuring those characters to capitalize on the genre's popularity. In the mid 90s fighting games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat were very popular.
